The eastern coast of North Carolina is well-known for its wide expanses of golden beaches, and southern hospitality is spoken fluently. However, Ocean IsleBeach and her surrounding areas have a few well-kept secrets that aren’t world renown. Shhhhhh, we are about to let you in on one little hidden gem…the beach-crafted beer and wine scene. Southeastern NC is home to several family-owned vineyards and wineries. There is also a growing interest in home and micro-brews. Find out about three local events during the early fall, that will give you a taste of the local flavor.
A Purple Feet Festival That Will Stomp Out Hunger
Sept 17, Purple Feet Festival @ Silver Coast Winery
In an attempt to stomp out hunger, the Silver Coast Winery in Ocean Isle Beach is hosting a “Purple Feet Festival”. The fun begins at 11am with all-day grape stomp, a Lucy look-alike contest at 3pm, and wine tastings every 1/2 hour. You can stomp to some local tunes, featuring live music from the Imitations of Wilmington, NC. If you prefer, you can stomp and shop from various arts & crafts vendors that will be on hand. And don’t forget about the kids…they will have their very own Kid Zone, outfitted with bouncy house, slide, popcorn, cotton candy, and fire prevention & safety.
Admission to this one-of-a-kind event is only $8. However, if you bring 4 canned goods or non-perishable food items for the Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC, your fee is only $5. Want to get in for FREE, all you have to do is dress as a Lucy look-alike (or be 12 & under)! This is an event for a good cause. Help them to reach their goal of 10,000 pounds of food….that is 8,500 meals for families in need.
