5 Delicious and Easy Snacks That are Perfect for a Day on the Beach

Every parent knows all too well that a day on the beach requires a cooler full of snacks for the kids. It seems like the little ones (and especially teenagers) have ferocious appetites and always need a snack when you are farthest away from a place to get one. With each plea for something to eat and sigh from a parent comes a decision. There is always the option to run to the little store down the street, but that means leaving the beach… and who wants to do that! Besides, kids are going to head straight to the sugary and fatty snacks that we’re all trying to avoid. Not to mention, who wants to spend extra money on junk food. This week we have an easy solution with five very simple and healthy snack that are perfect for a day on Ocean Isle Beach.

Cantaloupe with Mint and Black Pepper

We found this and fell in love with it. Who would have thought that cantaloupe and black pepper go well together, but surprise, they do!
Just take a cantaloupe and make small balls, then add a dash of pepper and some fresh chopped mint to it and mix well.
We like to add these to small containers or the snack size zip top bags. Don’t want to take utensils to the beach? An easy way to serve these is with a simple toothpick. Fresh, delicious and healthy are all present in this snack

Apples, Oranges and Pears are Perfect

We all love a banana or strawberries, but few fruits are as easy for parents to pack than the hearty trio of an apple, pear and orange. Why? For one thing, these fruits are tough. They hold up well when banged around in a cooler and do well in the heat of the day. All of them can easily be sliced before you go (add lemon juice to apple and pear to stay fresh) and therefore easier for the little ones. For adults and teens, whole fruit is easy to grab and go. All three of these fruits are loaded with vitamins and actually good for staying hydrated. They also avoid those dreaded fats and processed sugars.

Simple Frozen Grapes

Frozen grapes are an easy snack to prepare and are particularly well suited to the hot beach environment because they stay cold for a long time. Another advantage is that even when the grapes defrost they are delicious. Since they’re frozen from the start, grapes wont get mushy when it is time to snack on them.

Freeze them the night before and divide them up in small containers. These containers can even act like ice cubes in a well planned cooler. Now all you need is to find your favorite spot on Ocean Isle Beach.

Cucumber and Lemon Infused Water

There are a few things as refreshing as a glass of cucumber and lemon infused water. Not only will you love the tastes of this simple drink, but you will also love the little energy boost you feel from this vitamin packed drink.
This drink is easy to make. Find a good size water bottle (no glass on the beach please), slice cucumbers and lemons (don’t peel) and add to the bottle. Let sit overnight in the fridge and you are ready to go. If you want to add a little zest to it add some fresh mint or basil leaves. You’ll be shocked how refreshing this drink it.

Parmesan and Sea Salt Popcorn

Popcorn is easy and simple to make, plus it is even easier to pack into small portions for the kids. There are a ton of different ways to make popcorn, but if we are trying to avoid the sugar (save that for ice cream) then this is the way to go. We love the simple idea of a sprinkle of sea salt and parmesan.
All you need is a large gallon sized zip top bag. Place the popcorn inside the bag. Add the sea salt and the parmesan and shake. We like doing smaller batches at a time so you get a nice even infusion of flavor on the popcorn. Now divide in small containers and you are ready to go.
