Wide Open Beaches

The winter months beckon you to come experience uncrowded beaches where you can listen to the sounds of the sea and the crash of the waves. Wide open beaches with very few people to have to share them with make for a wonderful winter getaway. Leave behind your snow boots, hats and scarves and instead put on your flip flops, sunglasses and straw hat. Watch the shorebirds, catch up on a good book, try your hand at surf fishing, or stroll the sands. You just might think you’re on your own private island. Enjoy!

Mild Winters

Yes, we still get the four seasons here on the southern coast of North Carolina, but the winters are quite mild with daytime times averaging in the high 50s and 60s most days, and sometimes reaching up into the 70s other days. It’s lovely weather for walking, biking, running, shelling, kayaking, paddleboarding, exploring, and sightseeing. The water may be too cold for swimming, but that doesn’t mean your family can’t enjoy the beach. The kids can build a sandcastle, fly a kite, play beach volleyball, or go on a beach scavenger.

Great Shelling

Not only will you have a better chance for finding more shells during the off-season when there are fewer people out there searching for them, but winter is also a great time for finding seashells that have been churned up and brought to the shoreline during storms and other weather events this time of year. You never know what you might find! Each day offers new beachcombing adventures and coastal treasures just waiting to be found. Go early and go often.

Outdoor Activities & Things To Do

You can do so many more outdoor activities here in the southern U.S. than you can up north this time of year. Come on down to fish, golf, boat, paddle, explore, or just stroll through the small beach towns of the South Brunswick Islands. There are plenty of sunny days and starry nights to enjoy with those you love, and you won’t run out of things to do, see, and experience—but you have to be here.

Watch the Sun Rise & Set Over the Ocean

The Brunswick Islands of North Carolina run parallel to the shoreline in an east-west direction, which means they face south when you look out across the ocean.Because the sun reaches farther south in the late fall through early spring months, you are able to see both the sunrise and sunset over the Atlantic Ocean. It’s worthy enough to be called one of the “10 Incredible Phenomena You Have to See” by Weather.com. You can read more about thathereand then come see it for yourself.

Seasonal Fun

There is still plenty of seasonal fun offered with a coastal twist. Go holiday shopping in our local shops, experience the lighted streets and beach towns decorated for the holidays, go to the town’s tree lighting ceremony, or watch the parade and boat flotilla. Consider ringing in the New Year with us! Winter has a style all its own here at the beach, and we think you’ll love it just as much as we do.

Great Ocean Isle Beach Rental Rates

Off-season rental rates are another great reason to be here during the fall and winter months. Lower rates and more availability await you during this time of year as compared to the busy summer months. Get more beach vacation for your money! What’s not to love about that?
